John Tweddle was born about 1888 at Coatham Mundeville. He was the son of Thomas Tweddle and Elizabeth Ann Biglin, both born in Coatham Mundeville. They had had 9 children, 2 of whom had died by the 1911 census. Thomas Tweddle was a machine riveter.

John was a Lance Corporal, 12227, in the 8th Battalion, Border Regiment. He died 28, April, 1916 and is commemorated in La Chaudière Military Cemetery, Vimy.

John's younger brother George also served in WW1.
